My favorite duo! I grew up listening to their albums in the 70s. This song hits different today. With people always on their phones and headphones on.. no one listens to each other. The sound of silence.

I know that it's inspired in part by and in fact refers to the movie Casablanca, but every time I hear it I picture that scene in the market from the original Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, with Marion in her white dress and Indie looking for her among the stalls and vendors, and the mysterious atmosphere where nothing is quite as it seems and you feel like something's about to happen. Casablanca had nothing like that.

I always love your reactions! I like the studio version better. I got to see Rob Halford's band (singer) in the 90s in Houston- they toured with Metallica. I was FREAKING out because I was like 20 feet from him. It was outside & was general admission. BUT it was really really hot & the guy next to me was drinking. I felt something on my leg and saw his girlfriend was pouring bottled water on him (he was bent over) so for a split second I thought it was the water... nope... he was puking & that's what got on my leg (and shoe).

In 1981 to 1982, I took my junior year abroad in Mexico. That was the best year of my life for many reasons. One of my best memories is coming home after school and getting together with my friends who spoke little English, but could repeat every single word of a Queen song, when we all jammed on guitars. The crowd also happened in Puebla, Mexico when I saw Queen in concert that year. There will never be anything like that. No experience can top that.

😂 as a " ginger " I found that funny. I grew up in a very small town; every one got a nickname. I had a couple. Red, of course and Casper. You're probably to young to know about the cartoon Casper the Friendly Ghost. My skin is so white that I got picked on endlessly.

I’m 32, i remember listening to this on CMT when i was 13 or and crying as a kid. Understanding how wrenching the story was. I use to rewatch when my dad wasn’t home so he wouldn’t see me crying lol. Brooks and Dunn is the greatest.

While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso in 1971 I played this song from my barracks room on the 3rd floor to 4-500 troops in formation outside. They all started cheering and singing along. I didn’t get caught since no one except my friends could tell where the music was coming from since the sound reverberated between the 3-story barracks buildings.
